Somewhere in the world, there's a committee meeting happening right now where someone is nodding thoughtfully at a truly terrible sign design. These brave souls are supposed to be the last line of defense between a reasonable world and complete visual chaos, yet somehow, magnificently awful signs keep slipping through the cracks. Today we celebrate the signs that made us wonder if anyone was actually awake during the approval process. When Mattress Marketing Goes ExistentialNothing says "come buy our sleep products" quite like an accidental Freddie Mercury reference. One furniture store decided to advertise their wares with this philosophically confused mattress store sign, which proclaimed that "nothing really mattress" to potential customers. While we appreciate the nihilistic approach to retail, we're not sure existential dread is the best sales strategy for big-ticket items. Did the sign maker have a stroke mid-design? Was this a cry for help from an overworked employee? Or did someone genuinely think this pun was so good it transcended basic grammar? We may never know, but we're certain this sign moved exactly zero mattresses. The Most Specific Traffic Rule Ever WrittenMeanwhile, somewhere a traffic safety board got incredibly specific about their concerns. Someone actually approved this bizarrely specific motorcycle weapon ban, creating what might be the most targeted prohibition in transportation history. Not swords in general, mind you, and not all weapons. Just ninja swords. While on motorcycles. This raises so many questions. Was there an incident? Multiple incidents? Did a focus group determine that regular swords were fine but specifically ninja swords crossed a line? And how does one enforce this? Is there a laminated guide for officers showing the difference between ninja swords and regular swords? These signs remind us that somewhere behind every baffling public notice is a committee that looked at it and said, "Yeah, that works." They're the heroes we don't deserve, greenlighting the chaos that makes our commutes just a little bit weirder. Keep fighting the good fight, sign approval committees. Never change. |
