In 1982, a little show called Cheers debuted its pilot on NBC, introducing the world to a Boston bar where everybody knows your name and, apparently, your entire romantic history. It's the rare sitcom that made hanging out in a basement bar look like the pinnacle of human achievement. Honestly? Still holds up.

Speaking of shows that stuck the landing, back in 1791 Mozart conducted the premiere of his final opera, The Magic Flute, in Vienna. Two centuries apart, two theme songs that live rent-free in people's heads. Coincidence? Absolutely, but a fun one.

Happy Birthday to the Fastest Guy Alive

On this day in 1997, Dutch race car driver Max Verstappen was born, and he has spent his life since then treating speed limits as gentle suggestions. He shares the date with actor Ezra Miller (1992) and dancer-turned-actress Maddie Ziegler (2002), who twirled her way from a reality show into full-blown pop culture fixture.

Also joining the September 30 club: Australian actor Levi Miller (2002) and a solid roster of athletes who could probably all beat you at any sport simultaneously. It's a competitive birthday, is what we're saying.

Botswana Throws the Best Party

September 30 is Independence Day in Botswana, celebrating the country's 1966 independence from the United Kingdom. It's a genuine national celebration, so if you've been looking for an excuse to party with real historical significance, congratulations, the calendar has provided.

For the more contemplative among us, it's also International Translation Day, honoring the unsung heroes who make sure "where everybody knows your name" lands correctly in forty languages. Translators: doing the quiet, essential work of stopping the entire world from talking past each other.
