June 21: Computers, Cats, and 'Friday' Fame

June 21 is the kind of day that makes you believe the universe has a sense of humor. It's given us technological marvels, internet sensations, and yes, the singer who made us all reconsider our relationship with the days of the week. Buckle up for a wild ride through history.

The Computer That Started It All

Back in 1948, the Manchester Baby took its first computational steps and changed everything. This wasn't some cute nickname for a precocious toddler—it was the world's first stored-program computer. Sure, it probably had less processing power than your smart fridge, but this chunky pioneer paved the way for every device you've ever rage-quit. Without the Manchester Baby, we wouldn't have smartphones, laptops, or the ability to argue with strangers on the internet. Progress!

Rebecca Black Made Fridays Famous

In 1997, the world welcomed Rebecca Black, who would grow up to gift us the most talked-about song about the weekly calendar ever created. Her 2011 viral hit made everyone hyper-aware of which seat they should take and sparked a million think pieces about internet fame. Love it or love to joke about it, you know exactly which day comes after Thursday, and that's her legacy.

The Internet's Favorite Feline

Speaking of internet royalty, 2011 blessed us with Lil Bub, the celebrity cat who became an absolute icon before crossing the rainbow bridge in 2019. With her unique appearance and undeniable charm, Lil Bub proved that the internet's obsession with cats wasn't just a phase—it was a lifestyle. She raised money for animals in need and warmed millions of hearts, because that's what heroes do.

Go Skateboarding Day and International Yoga Day

As if June 21 wasn't already pulling double duty as the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, it's also Go Skateboarding Day AND International Yoga Day. So whether you're catching air or catching your breath in downward dog, today's got you covered. The universe is basically telling you to do something active, or at least pretend you're thinking about it while scrolling through your phone on the couch.
